BMJ are delighted to be partnering with the Royal Australian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) to bring senior leaders the opportunity to witness innovation in practice at a leading hospital in the region.
Our site visit to South Metropolitan Health Service will take place on Monday 7th September from 11am - 4.30pm. This exclusive opportunity is for delegates attending the BMJ / VMI Future Leaders conference on 8th September, and will feature a combination of practical workshop and presentations as well as the opportunity to visit different departments across the service and learn first hand from both frontline and leadership staff.

- South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) delivers hospital and community-based healthcare to more than 648,000 people across the southern metropolitan region of Perth and provides specialist services to patients from across regional Western Australia. SMHS is committed to delivering excellent healthcare every time through strong clinical governance, continuous improvement and innovation. Recent work with the Virginia Mason Institute (VMI) has strengthened SMHS’s focus on quality management, patient safety and empowering frontline teams to identify and solve healthcare challenges. At the same time, SMHS is advancing a range of digital health initiatives that support more integrated, patient-centred and data-informed care.
- What the programme will deliver
- During your visit to SMHS, you will hear from clinical and executive leaders about how VMI principles are being applied to improve quality, safety and patient outcomes across the health service. The programme will showcase how clinical governance, quality improvement and digital health are being brought together to support better decision-making, streamline clinical workflows and prepare for the future digital healthcare environment. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with frontline teams, learn about SMHS’s approach to system-wide improvement, and explore how innovation and leadership are helping to build a more sustainable and patient-centred health system.
