BMJ Future Health is the place to consider why healthcare technology and innovation doesn't always lead to real world improvements and what we can do to change this.

What makes us different?

Evidence led

We're the home of evidence, bets practice and analysis of real problems.

Embracing voices

We embrace voices from across the health and care ecosystem, particularly championing patients, carers and service users to achieve an efficient, equitable and sustainable future for everyone.

Conversations

We are not a sales pitch from industry, but a conversation between the frontline, healthcare leaders and innovators to accelerate and scale innovation.

We are working hard on this year's programme and for now we can share the key themes that will be covered:

In this stream we’ll look at the ways in which digital innovation is making real world changes to clinical practice. From how tech is changing the way patients and communities monitor their own health and access frontline services, through to the delivery of care both at the bedside and in the back office.

As new healthcare technology advances at speed, we will explore the tension between driving cutting edge innovation while ensuring robust evidence, regulation and patient safety. We’ll consider the shift in the traditional patient-clinician relationship, and how we must engage everyone across the healthcare ecosystem to engage in questions around the ethics of these new models.

In this stream, we’ll tackle some of the biggest challenges facing healthcare transformation today - from resistance to change and digital skills gaps, to disengaged workforces and solutions that fail to meet patient needs. Through practical examples of co-design, patient-led innovation, and user-centred design, you will learn how to deliver more agile, innovative and effective health and care.

This stream focuses on one of healthcare’s toughest challenges: turning promising innovation into sustainable, system-wide impact. We’ll explore how organisations can avoid wasted investment by funding digital solutions that deliver measurable value, save cost and time, and demonstrate real world improvement.

Sessions will address the real barriers that prevent innovation from scaling — including frontline resistance, change fatigue, siloed working, and poor interoperability between systems.

With perspectives from global, rural, and lower-resource settings, this stream will provide valuable insights into scalable, sustainable solutions that work across diverse populations. We’ll examine how prevention-focused approaches can improve long-term health outcomes and reduce pressure on healthcare systems, while also exploring how organisations can engage communities earlier and more meaningfully to build trust and inclusion. The stream will also highlight the growing importance of environmental sustainability and how digital innovation can support healthier people and a healthier planet together.

Whether you are looking to launch a new venture, pivot your career or to create meaningful change within your own organisation, we’ll offer practical advice and mentorship on how to turn your ideas into real world solutions.
