Alex Novak

Professor Alex Novak is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Ambulatory Care at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and an Associate Professor of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. He leads Emergency Medicine Research Oxford (EMROx) and co-leads Oxford Clinical Artificial Intelligence Research (OxCAIR), bringing together clinical practice, research and innovation in acute healthcare.

His research focuses on the development and evaluation of diagnostic technologies in acute care, with particular expertise in artificial intelligence-enhanced medical imaging. Through OxCAIR, Alex works on the real-world evaluation of commercially available and regulator-approved digital health technologies, exploring how AI can be introduced safely and effectively into clinical practice.

Alex has played a significant role in developing emergency medicine research in Oxford and nationally. He is a member of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine Research Committee and was named RCEM Principal Investigator of the Year in 2020. His work combines frontline emergency medicine with research into how AI and emerging diagnostic technologies can support clinical decision-making and improve patient care.
