Ayad Marhoon

Ayad Marhoon is a Patient Educator and Communication Skills Trainer at the Leeds Institute of Medical Education, University of Leeds, where he contributes to the education of healthcare students through patient-led teaching, communication skills training and feedback.

He is also a PhD student researching patient involvement in medical education, with a particular interest in how patients can move beyond traditional consultative roles to become meaningful partners in the design, delivery and development of education. His wider interests include co-design, patient-led innovation, professional identity and the redistribution of power between patients, students and healthcare professionals.

Ayad holds a BSc in Psychology with Education from University College London and an MSc in Organisational Psychiatry and Psychology from King’s College London. 

Drawing on both his professional experience and his lived experience as a patient, Ayad advocates for approaches to healthcare and education that are designed with patients rather than simply for them.
