Chief Digital Officer, Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust

Ben Emly is the Chief Digital Officer (non-voting executive board member) at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. 

Ben joined the Trust’s leadership team in May 2021, when he was appointed Director of Information and Technology.  In this capacity, he leads the Trust’s digital strategy and oversees its IT infrastructure, electronic patient record systems, information services, information governance, data security, clinical coding, and medical records. 

His earlier roles at the Trust include Head of Service Improvement and Productivity, and subsequently Associate Director of Insight and Improvement, through which he contributed to operational and clinical projects such as outpatient Kaizen redevelopment, performance improvement programmes, and capital projects. 

Before joining the NHS in 2010, Ben worked for six years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he trained as a Chartered Accountant and supported organisations across the UK with operational, financial and performance challenges. 

Ben also serves as the Trust’s Senior Information Risk Officer and Director of Information and Technology in the context of its Freedom of Information and data risk governance. 

With his combined experience in improvement, analytics, digital transformation and governance, Ben plays a key role in steering Surrey and Sussex Healthcare’s digital evolution, delivering safer and more efficient care through technology-enabled change.
