Ben Maruthappu

Founder & CEO, Cera

Dr. Ben “Mahiben” Maruthappu is the Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Cera, one of Europe’s leading HealthTech and home care companies. Founded in 2016, under his leadership Cera has grown rapidly to over $500 million in revenues — delivering millions of home visits each month. Cera uses its preventative AI tools and digital platforms to shift care from hospitals into people’s homes – saving the NHS and Government over £1 billion to date.

Ben is a medically trained doctor who has also held advisory roles within the NHS. He co-founded the NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA) and served as an adviser to the CEO of NHS England, helping to drive adoption of healthcare technologies across the system. Ben has also served on the Boards of NHS North West London Integrated Care Board (ICB), and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

His vision combines clinical experience, innovation strategy, and entrepreneurship: he is deeply committed to applying AI-driven insights, data analytics, and digital care models to improve outcomes, reduce hospitalisations, and deliver more sustainable health and social care systems.

Ben’s contributions have been widely recognised: he has been awarded an MBE for services to health and care technology (2020), and is the only entrepreneur to have won both EY’s UK Entrepreneur of the Year Award (2024) and the Great British Entrepreneur of the Year Award (2023).

As a speaker, Dr. Maruthappu brings a rare combination of frontline clinical insight, systems-level strategy, and entrepreneurial daring. He speaks compellingly on topics including digital transformation in care, AI in health, scaling health tech ventures, and reimagining the future of home-based clinical services.

Ben was educated at Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard Universities.
