Clare Cable
Clare Cable is a strategic nurse leader with deep expertise in charity governance, finance, and healthcare policy. A children’s nurse by background, Clare has built a distinguished career in healthcare quality improvement before transitioning into the charitable sector. Most recently, she served as Chief Executive of the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS), where she led transformative nursing‑led programmes aimed at empowering community nurses and improving outcomes for underserved populations.
Clare is a Florence Nightingale Foundation Leadership Scholar, an Honorary Professor of Nursing at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, and a Visiting Professor at the University of the Highlands and Islands. Her vision centres on unleashing the creativity and agency of nurses to act as catalysts for positive change—impacting people, place and planet.
As Chief Executive of The Burdett Trust for Nursing, Clare is instrumental in guiding grants and strategic initiatives that strengthen the nursing contribution to healthcare systems across the UK. Her leadership is grounded in compassion, innovation and a relentless commitment to cultivating inclusive environments where health professionals flourish and patient care is advanced.
