Paediatric Surgeon and Founder, Clinical AI Partners Oxford

Dr Eva Coates is a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon, Founder of Clinical AI Partners Oxford and a leading voice in clinical AI education and workforce transformation. With 20 years of NHS service, she combines frontline clinical experience with expertise in artificial intelligence, data and healthcare innovation.

Through Clinical AI Partners Oxford, Eva works with NHS organisations and global health partners to build AI fluency across the healthcare workforce, helping clinicians use emerging technologies safely, effectively and responsibly. She is the founder of Lyra, a clinical AI education platform spanning areas including workforce assessment, regulatory training, micro-learning and practical AI innovation.

Eva’s academic background includes degrees from the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, a PhD from UCL focused on applied machine learning for surgical risk stratification, and postgraduate study in AI for Business at Oxford’s Saïd Business School.

A regular speaker and commentator, Eva explores the impact of AI on patient safety, health equity, clinical education and the future healthcare workforce. Her work also examines how data and AI can support better services and outcomes for children with complex healthcare needs.

Alongside her work in AI, Eva continues to practise clinically, with particular interests in paediatric colorectal surgery, data and outcome measurement. This frontline perspective remains central to her approach to healthcare technology: ensuring innovation is driven by clinical need and delivers meaningful benefits for patients, families and healthcare professionals.
