Chief Medical Officer, NHS The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Dr Magnus Harrison brings a rich blend of clinical and executive leadership to his role as Chief Medical Officer at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHST, one of the UK’s largest multi‑speciality acute trusts. Appointed in September 2023, Magnus joined the trust after senior roles as Executive Medical Director and Deputy Chief Executive at Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospitals of Derby & Burton NHS Foundation Trust, including serving as Interim Chief Executive in 2022. 

With a background as a consultant and clinical director in emergency medicine for over a decade, Magnus is now Director of Infection Prevention & Control and Caldicott Guardian for Leeds Teaching Hospitals, alongside chairing the North East & Yorkshire Neurosurgical Network. 

An honorary fellow at the University of Nottingham Medical School, his work spans clinical excellence, operational improvement and system‑level transformation. In his current role, Magnus is driving ambitious innovation, elective care hubs and research initiatives aligned to improving outcomes for patients and supporting a diverse clinical workforce. 

Magnus is an advocate for improvement science, physician engagement and leadership culture change; he emphasises outcomes, clinician voice and operational efficiency across the system.
