Rebecca Coombes
Rebecca Coombes is an experienced journalist and editor with more than 25 years in publishing. An editor at The BMJ since 2010, she leads its journalism team, writing, editing and commissioning content for a global medical audience, including award-winning investigative journalism.
Her areas of interest include public health, access to affordable medicines, conflicts of interest, corruption in healthcare and the influence of lobbying on healthcare policy. Throughout her career, Rebecca has combined rigorous health journalism with a strong focus on investigating the issues that shape healthcare systems and patient care.
Rebecca is also an experienced moderator and conference chair, having led roundtable discussions and participated in panels on a range of healthcare topics. She has organised international meetings on investigative journalism in New York and Berlin and managed partnerships with organisations including the European Commission, Open Society Foundations and Arnold Ventures.
Before joining The BMJ, Rebecca worked as a freelance journalist for organisations including The Guardian, Health Service Journal, Nursing Times, the World Health Organization and the European Commission. Earlier in her career, she was News Editor at Nursing Times.
