Chief Executive Officer , World Innovation Summit for Health, Qatar

Dr Slim Slama is a global health leader with extensive experience across public health, internal medicine, and international health systems, currently serving as Chief Executive Officer of the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) at Qatar Foundation. In this role, he leads a global platform focused on advancing evidence-based healthcare innovation, policy dialogue, and system transformation.

Prior to this, Dr Slama held senior leadership roles at the World Health Organization (WHO), including Unit Head for Noncommunicable Disease (NCD) Management in Geneva, where he oversaw global strategies to address one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. He also served for over seven years at WHO’s Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) in Cairo, advising countries on NCD prevention and management and supporting health system strengthening across diverse and complex settings.

Dr Slama’s career is underpinned by a strong clinical and academic foundation. He spent more than 16 years at the University Hospitals of Geneva, where he held roles including Assistant Professor, Chief Resident, and Programme Director of the Geneva Health Forum. His work has consistently bridged frontline clinical care with public health strategy and international collaboration.

He holds a Master of Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, further strengthening his expertise in global health policy and population health. Across his career, Dr Slama has demonstrated a commitment to advancing equitable, sustainable healthcare solutions, particularly in the context of chronic disease management and humanitarian settings.

His leadership reflects a deep understanding of the intersection between innovation, policy, and real-world healthcare delivery—aligning closely with the mission of initiatives such as BMJ Future Health to translate innovation into practical impact across global health systems
