Susan Shelmerdine is a Consultant Radiologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital, Associate Professor at University College London (UCL) and Visiting Professor at City St George's, University of London. A leading voice in responsible AI, she specialises in the impact of artificial intelligence on clinical decision-making, healthcare education and patient safety.

Combining her experience as a clinician and postdoctoral AI researcher, Susan explores how AI is reshaping human thinking, trust and judgement in healthcare. Her work focuses on human–AI collaboration, automation bias, cognitive offloading, digital ethics and the safe adoption of AI in high-stakes clinical environments.

Susan advises organisations on building responsible, human-centred AI systems and is widely recognised for her contributions to healthcare innovation. She was named the Royal College of Radiologists' Roentgen Professor for 2025, recognised as a Department of Health and Social Care AI Visionary, and included in the AI 100 UK list for her work advancing responsible artificial intelligence.
